IAWEA hosts ‘Spring Swing’ event with First Lady of New Jersey

The Indian American Women Entrepreneurs Association (IAWEA) hosted their annual “Spring Swing” event on May 3, 2023, at the Moghul Ballroom in Edison, NJ. The event was a huge success, with over 200 attendees, including the First Lady of New Jersey, Tammy Snyder Murphy.

Mrs. Murphy was welcomed with open arms by the IAWEA community and gave a passionate speech about the importance of women’s entrepreneurship. She emphasized that she has been working with NJ State’s economic development authority to provide access to capital for women entrepreneurs in their administration. Additionally, she mentioned that women-owned businesses in the IT sector had 30 percent more profit than men-owned businesses, according to recent studies.

Dr. Nimisha Shukla, President and Founder of IAWEA, also gave a heartfelt speech, thanking the First Lady for her presence and support. She highlighted that the organization had grown from 10 to 265 members in just four years despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Shukla stressed the importance of providing resources and networking opportunities to women entrepreneurs to grow their businesses.

The event also featured an education component with a panel discussion on Entrepreneurship and Real Estate. Charan Bajwa, ReMax Broker, hosted the panel discussion with Mr. Kumar Trivedi, C.P.A., and Mr. Shankar Thayver from Thayver Group as the panelists.

Dr. Shukla emphasized that IAWEA is committed to supporting women’s entrepreneurship and has provided free training to its members in Excel and Quickbooks training for Entrepreneurs. She also stressed the need for women entrepreneurs to work on improving their skills in the digital space.

IAWEA’s “Spring Swing” was a huge success, and the organization is looking forward to hosting more events to support women’s entrepreneurship in the Indian American community.
