In a first, World Trade Center lit up for Diwali

New York: For the first time ever, the World Trade Center in Manhattan was lit up with a Diwali-themed animation on November 2 and continued until Diwali day.

Dubbed as the All-American Diwali experience, the celebration included a spectacular fireworks display that was viewed by people from both sides of the Hudson river in New York and New Jersey.

Organized by the South Asian Engagement Foundation (SAEF), a New Jersey-based non-profit, the All-American Diwali experience was dedicated to the Country’s first responders.

“We are excited to create and curate the colorful imagery of Diwali on the WTC podium to bring the messages of peace, harmony, and unity,” said Mark Domino of the Durst Organization.

Rahul Walia, founder of SAEF, said, “There is no better symbol of the triumph of resiliency than the World Trade Center and we are very fortunate to work with The Durst Organization to bring this message to all.”

American singer/actor Mary Millben performed the US national anthem and a verse from the popular Hindu bhajan – Om Jai Jagdish Hare.

The key benefactors of the event included crypto exchange, CrossTower and Atlanta-based 27th investments, a national investment firm.

Indiaspora served as community patrons. Indian-American Artist Varun Patel of Vichaar and Prem provided inspiration for the animation.
