India maul England to grab 2-1 lead in Test series

Ahmedabad: India completed one of their fastest Test victories on Thursday by defeating England inside two days in the third Test match at the brand new Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

After dismissing England for 81 in their second innings, openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill knocked off the 49-run target. With the win, India took a 2-1 lead in the four-match Test series. For England, this was the end of their ICC World Test Championship dreams.

One of the heroes of the match was Test newbie, Axar Patel, who returned with figures of 11/70. With Ravichandran Ashwin, who became the second-fastest bowler to take 400 wickets in the longest format of the game, toyed with England batsmen.

Now, India need to avoid defeat in the fourth and final Test at the same venue, starting March 4, to make the WTC final against New Zealand at Lord’s.
