India, USA sign MoU on Ayurvedic products, Indian traditional medicines

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy (PCIMH) and American Herbal Pharmacopoeia, USA on September13 to facilitate export of Ayurvedic products and Indian Traditional Medicines to US market.

India and USA have agreed for the constitution of a joint committee to develop the action plan along with timelines for the development of monographs and other activities for cooperation in the field of Traditional Medicine.

The Union ministry of Ayush in India hopes that MoU will pave the way for strengthening the quality of Ayurveda products and Indian Traditional Medicine products globally. The MoU also aims at enhancing the export potential of Ayurveda products, especially to the USA Market.

The MoU has been signed between India and USA with the specific purpose of strengthening, promoting, and development of standards in the field of Ayurveda and other Indian Traditional systems of medicine between the two countries on the basis of equality and mutual benefit. The collaboration of efforts is expected to go a long way in enhancing the export potential of the Ayush – Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homeopathy drugs.

The Ministry of Ayush expects that the MoU will develop the confidence of the global community about the safety of Ayurveda products and Indian traditional medicines. India and the USA are going to work under the MoU to identify various challenges faced by the herbal market of Ayurveda products and drugs in the USA. This is expected to lead to adoption of Ayurveda standards developed out of this cooperation by the manufacturers of herbal drugs in the USA.
