‘Definition Please’ filmmaker Sujata Day has been tapped to write and develop a new installment of the sex comedy film series ‘American Pie’.
The film will be a “fresh take” on the franchise based on Day’s pitch, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Its plot and details are still under wraps, but it will be developed under Universal 1440 Entertainment, the production arm of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group.
“Obsessed with raunchy comedies and ‘American Pie’ is one of my all-time faves,” Day wrote in an Instagram post. “So excited to be working on this movie.”
Day, a 38-year-old Indian-American filmmaker, began her career starring in a recurring role as Sarah, a staff member of the nonprofit organization We Got Y’all in HBO’s ‘Insecure’.
She made her directorial debut with the 2020 movie ‘Definition Please’ where she starred as Monica, a former spelling bee champion who tries to reconnect with her estranged family.
‘Definition Please’ won several awards, including the best narrative feature at the 2020 CAAMFest and outstanding directorial debut at the South Asian Film Festival of America that same year.
