Indo-American Festivals, Inc. (IAF) will be hosting its Annual Grand Dushahra Festival (dushahra.com) on October 1, 2022 (1 PM to 8 PM) at Lake Papaianni Park in Edison (100 Municipal Blvd.), New Jersey. If it rains on Oct. 1, the festival will be held on October 8.
The events generally attract more than 10,000 spectators every year, organizers said in a press release. It is free to the public, and the activities are managed through sponsorships and donations from patrons and members.
The Ramleela will be performed by Varsha Naik’s group and a cultural program by Pratibha will conclude with the highlight – Ravan Dahan (burning of a 25-foot-tall effigy of Ravan). The effigy is built in the U.S. by Krishna Singhal.
The festival will also be the site for a free health/ medical screening camp organized by the Agarwal Samaj of the USA. There will be arts and crafts activities and a Meena Bazaar as well as many other attractions, the press release said.
The Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders/Office of Culture & Heritage, and New Jersey State Council for Arts/Department of State support the program through a grant.
