Karnataka techie couple, 6-year-old son found dead in US in suspected suicide

A software engineer couple and their son from Karnataka were found dead at their house in Maryland in a case of suspected suicide.

The deceased were identified as Yogesh Honnala Nagarajappa, 37; his wife Prathibha Y Amarnath, 35; and their son Yash Honnala, 6, who hailed from the Davanagere district of Karnataka and resided in Baltimore. Yogesh had been in the US for nine years, according to family members in India who said they learned about the deaths when the Baltimore police contacted them.

“We received a phone call from the police saying all three died by suicide, and they were probing the reason behind the death,” Yogesh’s mother Shobha told the media. Yogesh’s parents hailed from the Halekallu village in Jagalur. His father Nagarajappa was a tahsildar and he died a few years ago.

“Yogesh called me over the phone regularly. I am living here with another son Puneeth. There were no domestic issues between the couple. We request the authorities to send the remains back to India. Also, we need to know the reason behind their deaths,” said Shobha.

The newspaper Baltimore Sun, quoting Baltimore County police spokesperson Anthony Shelton, said, “Based on the initial investigation, this incident is believed to be a double murder-suicide that suspect Yogesh H Nagarajappa committed…”
