Khambhaita first Indian American to be elected to Johnsonville City Council

Dipen Khambhaita has become the first Indian American elected to the Johnsonville City Council in South Carolina. He bagged 21.71 percent votes to win one of the three seats on the council.

Khambhaita said it would be a great achievement to be the first Indian American municipal elected official in the state. “It would be a step forward,” he told SCNow.

Khambhaita was born in London and moved to Johnsonville in 2004 when he purchased the former T&J Market in the city. He renamed the store the OM Mini Mart and has been running it successfully for the last 17 years.
