Kombucha for happy gut, happy skin

What you eat and drink reflects on your face. If you are someone who monitors their consumption of water, drinks plenty of fresh fruit juice and adds only greens to their diet then you definitely have healthy, glowing skin. You cannot possibly achieve your skin goals without adding the right drinks and dishes to your diet. If we were to speak of drinks alone, do you know anything about kombucha?

We are sure you must have heard of this fermented tea but have you ever consumed it? If not, then now is the time you add this beverage to your everyday routine. Kombucha has been a popular beverage for healthy gut and skin for years now. However, it is only now, thanks to skin junkies on Instagram, that the drink has picked up momentum and every second person wants a taste of it.

For those who are still not sure what this drink offers, well you must know that kombucha is a drink that you make by adding specific strains of bacteria, yeast and sugar to black or green tea. You then let this drink ferment for over a week or so and drink it only afterwards. Kombucha boasts of being rich in probiotics which, as we all know, helps keep the gut in good shape.

Happy gut, happy skin! When you are constipated or struggling with acid reflux, you would have noticed that you get a sudden breakout of acne and pimples, right? For those like those and otherwise too, kombucha drinks can come to the rescue. If you need a point-by-point guide on how the beverage helps your skin, scroll ahead.

Since kombucha is a fermented drink containing probiotics it can help with inflammatory skin conditions such as pimples, zits and acne. It is also known to have a high concentration of antioxidants which can shoo away your wrinkle lines and fade the early signs of aging.

There are two ways to use kombucha to the advantage of your skin; one is by drinking it and the other is its application on the face as a base product.

For drinking: You can find yourself a kombucha drink in the market. It is mostly bottled as fermenting at homes requires some additional resources. You can drink it at room temperature every alternative day to reap benefits.

For application: While we have seen Instagram influencers apply kombucha to their face directly, we advise against this. Only after consulting your dermatologist should you say yes to such a DIY. After speaking to an expert, you can invest in a serum or a sheet mask that comes with kombucha as a base product.
