MET Gala: Natasha Poonawalla brings desi representation

Natasha Poonawalla made heads turn at the Met Gala 2022, held at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The businesswoman and philanthropist, who has a strong penchant for fashion, embraced an exquisite Sabyasachi saree for fashion’s biggest night.

Designer Sabyasachi took to Instagram to share Natasha’s photos in the all-golden ensemble that she wore for the event. This year, the Met Gala theme is In America: An Anthology of Fashion and the dress code is Gilded Glamor. Natasha definitely nailed the dress code as she slipped into a metallic bustier by Schiaparelli paired with a custom Sabyasachi couture saree and trail.

“For me, the sari is a truly unique and versatile garment that owns its identity even as it transcends boundaries and geographies. Back when I was a young fashion student, I often wondered when I would see the sari at big global fashion events like the Met Gala,” designer Sabyasachi wrote in his Instagram post.

Celebrity stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania styled Natasha’s look. The diva also wore a heavy assemblage of striking jewels comprising statement earrings and stacks of regal bangles in both arms. The makeup, dipped in nude and gold hues, complemented the outfit well.

Natasha Poonawalla is an Indian philanthropist and the chairman of the Villoo Poonawalla Foundation. She is the wife of Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of Serum Institute of India, and also the executive director of the company.

Natasha Poonawalla’s friends gave a shout-out to her look on their respective Instagram stories. Kareena Kapoor, sharing Natasha Poonawalla’s look, wrote: “The one and only. Uff! Love, love, love.”

After a two-year-long lull, the MET gala brought back celebrities on the red carpet in experimental yet glamorous costumes for the big night.
