MTA to eliminate 20-trip ticket plan created for part-time commuters

The transit agency announced it is scrapping its 20-trip ticket, which has some commuters concerned they will be paying more to get to work.

The MTA says over 14,000 Long Island Rail Road customers currently use the discount program, which was started in March 2022 for commuters mainly working remotely who were no longer going into the office five days a week.

A spokesperson for the MTA released a statement saying, “It is being discontinued after more than a year’s worth of data showed customers preferred 10% discounted monthly tickets by a wide margin. Thanks to that discount, Long Island monthly ticket prices, even after the September change, will still be less expensive than at any time in the past eight years.”
