Nation celebrates Nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar’s 92nd birthday

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar celebrated her 92nd birthday on September 28. Considered one of the greatest playback singers in Indian cinema, she is the recipient of the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor in addition to Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke Awards. While her birthday was an intimate celebration with family, there was an outpour of love and best wishes for the music icon from all quarters on social media. From PM Modi to Juhi Chawla, birthday wishes came in from across the nation.  

Actress Juhi Chawla lauder her beautiful voice and Tweeted, ” 100 trees for the legendary Lataji on her birthday. Radio sun rahi thi , aapke 70’s ke gaane baj rahe the, aapki aawaz ko sunkar aisa laga jaise phoolon ki baarish ho rahi hai, jaise Gangaji beh rahi hai with much love and respect.” 

Ace film-maker Madhur Bhandarkar also extended his birthday wish for the legendary singer and wrote, “Wishing a very Happy Birthday to @mangeshkarlata tai, the voice that touches every heart, Not a single day in my life goes without listening to your songs. May Lord Ganesh bless you with a long and healthy life.” #Godofmusic 

Composer Amjad Ali Khan extended his birthday wishes and wrote, “Wishing the iconic nightingale of India @mangeshkarlata a very Happy Birthday! Saal Giraah Mubaarak Lata Didi #LataMangeshkar.” 

From the political fraternity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed her as ‘Lata Didi’ and wrote, “Birthday greetings to respected Lata Didi. Her melodious voice reverberates across the world. She is respected for her humility & passion towards Indian culture. Personally, her blessings are a source of great strength. I pray for Lata Didi’s long & healthy life. “ 

Chief Minister of Maharashtra took his Twitter to praise Lata Mangeshkar’s ‘Golden voice’ and wished her for long life.” Happy birthday to you. Your golden voice has filled the world of music. May your energy and blessings always inspire us. I wish you long life and healing,” he wrote. 

Veteran star Dharmendra wished for her good health and happiness. “Happy Birthday to dearest Lata ji. World’s most beloved singer, my loving Lata ji, wish you stay healthy and happy always,” he wrote alongside his picture with Lata Mangeshkar. 

Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar said Lata Mangeshkar’s birthday was a reason to celebrate for the entire country. “Lata ji, I wish the entire nation on your birthday. How lucky we all are to have Lata Mangeshkar,” Akhtar wrote.

Actor Riteish Deshmukh posted a throwback picture of her with his father and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. “Respected Lata Mangeshkar ji, Happy Birthday to you! May God bless you with good health and abundant life. #HappyBirthdayLataMangeshkar,” he tweeted. 

Celebrated cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle tweeted, “It must be beautiful to be like #LataMangeshkar, where your voice is at your command and you can take it to whatever level you choose. Wished you many more years of good health.” 

Veteran singer K S Chithra shared a video of her singing one of Lata Mangeshkar’s iconic songs “Lag ja gale” on Twitter. “I pray to God for your long life,” she further said.
