Nilima Madan takes over as RCHS President at oath ceremony

Roslyn, NY: Rotary Club of Hicksville South (RCHS) hosted its 12th Annual Installation and Oath Ceremony on June 26 at the lawns of the Nassau County Museum of Art here, where Nilima Madan took over as its President.

Past District Governor and RCHS’s Charter President Kamlesh C Mehta outlined the Club’s 11-year history and accomplishments. He praised President Mukesh Modi for a successful year.

Modi highlighted the activities and community service projects executed during the past year. He also recognized six RCHS members for their notable service during his term: Dr. Jay Sarkar (recipient of the club’s Bansi Shah Memorial Award for being biggest donor during the year, Dr. Neeru Bhambri, Jasbir (Jay) Singh, Mizan Rahman and Pupul Chopra. Nassau County Executive Laura Curran presented them the plaques.

Rotary International Finance Committee Member, PDG Ravi Bhooplapur received a check for $5,000 from the club towards a Rotary International Grant to donate five ambulances to Covid-19 hit areas in India.

Beena Kothari introduced the incoming President, Nilima Madan, who in turn invited the main guests – Hon. Laura Curran and NY Senator John Liu to the podium. The County Executive appreciated the community service work done by RCHS thus far. She thanked Mukesh Modi for his leadership role and welcomed Mrs. Madan as the new President of the Club. Senator Liu expressed gratitude for  the noble work RCHS does for the community.

County Executive Laura Curran administered the oath of office to Nilima Madan. Thereafter Senator John Liu swore in the new Executive Committee of RCHS, including President-Elect Ashok Varshney, Vice Presidents Dr Shashi Jhamb, Rizwan Qureshi, Anu Gulati and Shashi Malik, Secretary Mizan Rahman, Treasurer Arjen Bathija.

In her acceptance speech, Nilima Madan explained her vision for RCHS and sought support from her team as well as community leaders present during her term. Nassau County’s Executive Director for Minority Affairs and RCHS Past President Lionel Chitty was acknowledged by Mrs. Madan. She then welcomed  Neelam Modi and Anjali Khosla as new club members and an Honorary member for the year, Dr. Raj Modi. She also introduced the four RCHS members who became Rotary International’s Paul Harris Fellow, namely Mizan Rahman, Shashi Malik, Rekha Gupta and Anu Gulati.

Outgoing District Governor of Rotary District 7255, Justin Quaranta and the incoming District Governor, Jaquelyn Yonick praised RCHS’ extraordinary activities.  Quaranta called RCHS as a ‘Model Club’ for the district and the two  handed the flag with Rotary’s 2020 Theme Logo – ‘Rotary Opens Doors’ to Nilima Madan.

A moment of silence was observed in the memory of RCHS Member Subin Varghese (recipient of the Bansi Shah award for highest donation last year), and Avneet Singh, son of RCHS Service Director Jasbir Singh, and other Rotarians we lost recently.
