NY Consulate, Shanti Fund comes together for beach clean up

Long Island, NY: The Consulate General of India, New York in partnership with Shanti Fund, and New York State Parks Department organized a beach cleaning activity on May 21 at Jones Beach in Long Island. The event was part of the G-20 ‘Beach Cleanup’.

India holds the chair of G-20 for this year and “Addressing marine litter” is one of the focus areas. Keeping the Gandhian ideals on cleanliness at center stage, the beach cleanup drive was a part of India’s global initiative to bring attention to the problem of marine litter and the need to work together towards sustainable development of oceans. The activity also formed part of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” – celebration of 75 years of India’s Independence.

Speaking on the occasion, Consul General Randhir Jaiswal, highlighted the message behind the theme of India’s G20 Presidency – ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’. He emphasized the importance of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle For Environment) and the need to adopt sustainable and environment-friendly lifestyles.
