NYC Health+Hospitals invites applications for Clinical Leadership Fellowship 2023-2024

The Fellows will be trained to become future leaders in healthcare

NYC Health + Hospitals on July 20, 2022 announced the open application period for the Clinical Leadership Fellowship, a one-year opportunity designed for post-residency graduates interested in administrative roles within the nation’s largest public hospital system. Fellows are assigned to teams within NYC Health + Hospitals’ offices of quality, population health, ambulatory care, managed care and patient growth, or medical and professional affairs to acquire hands-on, practical work experience. As part of their participation, fellows will be required to design and lead a quality improvement or population health project at their sponsoring facility. In addition, fellows provide clinical care to some of the city’s most vulnerable patients. The application deadline for next year’s fellowship is October 14, and applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.

“NYC Health + Hospital is proud to host this year’s Clinical Leadership Fellows as they train to become future leaders in healthcare,” said NYC Health + Hospitals Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer Dr. Eric Wei. “Previous fellows have made a real impact across many of our system-wide quality and operational initiatives, and we’re sure this year’s class will be no exception.”

“NYC Health + Hospitals is a great place for clinicians to learn and grow,” said NYC Health + Hospitals Senior Vice President of Ambulatory Care and Population Health and Executive Director of the NYC Test & Trace Corps Dr. Ted Long. “The Clinical Leadership Fellows will have a chance to treat patients and incorporate what they learn at the bedside to solve problems and improve processes systemwide.”

“The Clinical Leadership Fellowship is a way for NYC Health + Hospitals to invest in the next generation of healthcare leaders,” said NYC Health + Hospitals Chief Medical Officer Dr. Machelle Allen. “The real-world experience these fellows will gain from working in the country’s largest municipal hospital system will give them an unmistakable edge as they develop their careers.”

The curriculum includes fundamentals of leadership and administration, population health approaches to improving outcomes, team facilitation and change management, fundamentals of quality improvement and the science of quality measurement, developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives, designing safe systems, and building a “just” culture.
