Priyanka celebrates South Asian talent at pre-Oscars

Looking stunning in a black sequined saree, actor Priyanka Chopra co-hosted a pre-Oscars event to felicitate south Asians nominated for the Academy Awards.

Mindy Kaling, Kumail Nanjiani, and Bela Bajaria, the head of global TV at Netflix, co-hosted the event along with Chopra.

“What a special honor it was to co-host a pre-Oscar celebration honoring this year’s 10 South Asian Oscar nominees, and the friends, family, and colleagues who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make all of this possible. Last night gave me all the feels and filled me with so much pride for how far our community has come. The future of entertainment is looking bright,” the global icon said in an Instagram post.

Among those honored at the event were Riz Ahmed, whose film ‘Flee’ was nominated for Best Documentary, International Feature, and Animated Feature. His short film ‘The Long Goodbye’ also got an Oscar nomination for Best Live Action Short.

Other South Asians who received nominations this year at the Oscars were Suroosh Alvi (‘Flee’) Pawo Choyning Dorji (‘Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom’), Aneil Karia (‘The Long Goodbye’), and Elizabeth Mirzaei and Gulistan Mirzaei (‘Three Songs for Benazir’).
