Ranveer, Shankar to collaborate for pan-India trilogy

Ranveer Singh and S Shankar had some time ago teamed up for the Hindi remake of the director’s 2005 hit ‘Anniyan’. The project, however, did not take off. Now, it appears that the two have decided to collaborate for a bigger project.

According to a report, Shankar plans to direct Ranveer Singh in a trilogy based on the Tamil epic novel Velpari. The films will be released in multiple languages to help them reach a wide audience.

Ranveer Singh, last seen in the commercially unsuccessful ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’, is said to be in talks to star in Shankar’s big screen adaptation of the Tamil novel Velpari. The franchise will feature three parts. The first instalment is expected to go on floors in 2023.

“Shankar wants to make the biggest pan-Indian film by bringing one of the biggest superstars of our generation, superstar Ranveer Singh, to helm this ambitious project – a grand cinematic adaptation of the iconic Tamil epic Velpari. The novel has everything to offer – from a larger-than-life hero to incredible life lessons, to a heart-touching love story and magnificent visual-effect sequences whose scale will set the next benchmark of action spectacles in India,” a source told Pinkvilla.

Shankar, at present, is working on ‘Indian 2’, starring Kamal Haasan and Kajal Aggarwal. The film features Kamal in the role of an aged freedom fighter who decides to fight against corruption. Shankar has also teamed up with Ram Charan for ‘RC 15’.

Ranveer Singh, on the other hand, will soon be seen in Rohit Shetty’s ‘Cirkus’. The actor is also working on ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, directed by Karan Johar.
