Rohini Nilekani tops list of India’s women philanthropists with Rs.120 crore annual donation

EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2022 was recently released for both men and women. Rohini Nilekani topped the list of women philanthropists and HCL founder Shiv Nadar topped the list of men with a per day donation of a whopping Rs 3 crore. Overall, the billionaire industrialist donated Rs 1,161 crore in the last financial year. Wipro’s Azim Premji slipped to the second position with an annual donation of Rs 484 crore, followed by Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani on the third spot with an annual donation of Rs 411 crore. Based on location, Mumbai led the list of most generous Indian philanthropists at 33%, followed by New Delhi at 16%, and Bengaluru at 13%. Take a look at the women who are a part of the list. 

Author Rohini Nilekani, wife of Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani is right at the top of the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy Women’s List 2022 with an annual donation of Rs 120 crore. Nilekani, the chairperson of Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies, made most of her donations in the field of education and environmental sustainability. In 2001, she founded Arghyam Foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses on water and sanitation issues. Nilekani is also the co-founder of the non-profit education platform, EkStep. 

Businessperson and author Leena Gandhi Tiwari is the second-most generous Indian woman with a donation of Rs 21 crore. Chairperson of USV Private Limited, a multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company, Tiwari was ranked third in the list of Women Philanthropists of 2019 by Hurun India with a donation of Rs 34 crore. One of the richest women in India, Tiwari has a net worth of $3.7 billion (Rs3,05,40), per Forbes.
