SAGA managed to hold its 2020 Season in New Jersey

Lawrenceville, NJThe South Asian Golf Association (SAGA) was able to hold its 2020 Season to provide a source of entertainment and relief from the rigors of living in this pandemic. Though starting late, SAGA was able to schedule all 8 rounds and their  grand finale, the SAGA Open.  Members  came in full force and all the rounds were sold out in short order.

The tour like every year was heavily contested and the frenzy rose in a crescendo at the SAGA Open held at the picturesque Cobblestone Country Club on September 26.  The weather was perfect. Vinay Bahuguna was the “comeback kid” who bested all competitors and held aloft the coveted Anish Joshi trophy. Other winners were:  Flight 1: Santosh Hanumaiah, Rajat Beri, Vivek Wadhwa. Flight 2: Vinay Bahuguna, Varun Malhotra, Shyam Jagirdar. Flight 3: Pavi Malhotra, Ankush Khurana, Chirag Batki. Highest stableford points winner: Vinay Bahuguna; most improved golfer: Vivek Wadhwa (2 years in a row); Closest to the pin: Varun Malhotra, Aman Ahuja, Santosh Hanumaiah; Closest to the line: Shodhan Patel; Putting contest: Rajat Beri.

With the help of Dr Anil Joshi and Mrs Anju Joshi, SAGA is entering its 3rd year of awarding SAGA Junior Scholarship to college bound students who have demonstrated their love of golf while excelling academically and in other extra-curricular activities. This year’s three Junior Scholarship winners are Anjali Dhayagude, Rehan Yadav and Abdullah Vohra. 

The awards ceremony was held on the lawn of the Country Club. Dinner and hors d’oeuvres were scrumptious.
