Same-sex marriages are against Indian culture: Acharya Lokeshji

New Delhi: World Peace Ambassador Jain Acharya Lokeshji has written a letter to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in India expressing his views against homosexuality. He has strongly opposed the issue of homosexuality and pleaded not to recognize marriage between the same gender.

In context of marriage between same gender, Acharya Lokeshji clarified that giving legal recognition to marriage between same gender would be an affront to our ancient value-based culture. The Indian marriage tradition that has been going on for hundreds of thousands of years will be attacked and the moral norms of the society will be violated. Appealing to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Acharya Lokeshji said, “it is not appropriate to recognize same-sex marriage at the legal level, it is necessary to ban it immediately in the interest of society and culture.”

Acharya Lokeshji, the Founder, Ahimsa Vishwa Bharti, wrote that the Constitution of India gives every citizen the right to freedom. Jainism also has full faith in personal freedom and follows it, but along with personal freedom, every citizen also has a responsibility towards the social duty and cultural values of his society and country. Indians have been following these social duties and cultural values uninterruptedly since time immemorial. Acharya Lokeshji said that in Indian culture and especially in Jain culture, marriage is the basis of carrying forward the lineage tradition.
