Seige of Delhi to ends on Dec 11 as farmers withdraw protest

New Delhi: Farmers protesting for over a year at the borders of Delhi against three farm laws on Thursday declared that they will end their protest on December 11.

The announcement comes after the Centre accepted all demands put forward by the protesting farmers, including the withdrawal of all agitation-related cases and compensation to the families of farmers who died during the movement.

The farmers camped on the outskirts of India’s capital to protest against the laws, arguing market forces would push prices even lower, and smaller farmers would find it hard to negotiate favorable deals with corporate giants.

Three Delhi border points – Singhu, Ghazipur, and Tikri – was blocked for the last 1 year by the farmers agitating at the gates of Delhi. Withdrawal of protest has come as a huge relief for the commuters facing chaos in capital Delhi.
