Shivaprakash Banad

New York: Shivaprakash Banad passed away on June 24 at the age of 75. He was born in Mysore state (now Karnataka) to a pious Lingayat Family.

Husband to Nagaveni Banad, father to Preetham Banad and Pooja Basavaraj, father-in-law to Mrs. Amisha Banad and Dr. Ashwin Basavaraj, brother to Dr. Jagannath, Smt. Chandraprabha (Mani), Dr. Premnath and late Dr. Viswanath (Founder of Vision of Asia and ITV) and brother-in-law to Sathya, Gayathri, Dr. Sheela and late Sri.Chinnapa. In addition, he was uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews. And loved by so many friends and colleagues.

He was a simple, quiet and principled man. He never spoke badly about anyone or treated others with anything but respect. Knowing Shivaprakash “Shamu” was to know a decent human being with a large heart.

He was an engineer by education and profession and dedicated more than 40 years to television broadcasting alongside his brother Dr. B.N. Viswanath and sister-in-law Sathya Viswanath. From the very inception of Vision of Asia, he was a news and media man. His favorite trip of the year was to the National Broadcasters Association (NAB) annual conference in Las Vegas, where they would showcase broadcast televisions’ latest equipment and technology.

He was a wonderful man with a genuine smile and he will be missed by all.
