Shiva’s abode Varanasi lights up to welcome gods on Dev Diwali

The millennia-old city of Varanasi celebrated Dev Deepawali, the Diwali of Gods, on Monday evening with lakhs of diyas and modern 3D projection lights along the majestic riverfront. About 21 lakh earthen lamps were lit in the city to celebrate the festival. According to the local authorities, around eight lakh diyas were lit along the entire stretch of crescent-shaped riverfront while about two lakh earthen lamps were illuminated on the riverbed. Besides, about 11 lakh diyas were lit by the local residents in their homes and localities.
