A blind Indian-American professor has been accused of gender-based discrimination by a Columbia University alumnus. The ex-student claimed that she was assigned ‘demeaning’ female tasks like ‘applying her makeup and making restaurant reservations’ in a lawsuit against the professor alleging gender discrimination.
Elizabeth Blackwell worked as a ‘research associate’ for Sheena Iyengar, a Columbia Business School professor. Blackwell began working for Iyengar following a five-month-long interview process after she completed her graduation in 2017.
Soon, Iyengar allegedly ‘insisted’ Blackwell perform ‘personal and supportive administrative and secretarial tasks’ including ‘applying her makeup and making restaurant reservations for Iyengar’s romantic dates’.
