India Association of Long Island celebrates 76th Republic Day

Hicksville, NY: The India Association of Long Island (IALI) proudly commemorated India’s 76th Republic Day with great enthusiasm on January 26th at the IALI Center here. The celebration brought together over 65 members and guests to honor India’s rich democratic heritage and shared cultural values.

The event began with the ceremonial unfurling of the Indian flag, accompanied by the singing of the Indian and US national anthems. It set the tone for a meaningful and joyous occasion that highlighted the unity and pride of the Indian American community.

IALI President Pradeep Tandon delivered an inspiring speech, reflecting on the profound significance of Republic Day. He said, "This day is a powerful reminder of the courage, vision, and sacrifices of our leaders and freedom fighters who laid the foundation of the world’s largest democracy. It connects us to our roots and reaffirms our shared love for India, uniting us as one community. Let us honor their legacy by upholding the values of peace, inclusivity, and service to society."

Ragini Srivastava, Town Clerk of North Hempstead, Ragini Srivastava unfurled the Indian flag. President Tandon introduced special guest, Pragya Singh, Consul (Community Affairs) from the Consulate General of India in New York, and highlighted her vital role in strengthening ties between the Indian government and the diaspora.  

Community leader and Human Rights Commissioner Dr Bobby Kumar Kalotee and Jasbir Jay Singh, Chief Editor of Hum Hindustani, addressed the gathering. Kalotee paid tribute to India’s freedom fighters and stressed the vital responsibility of the Indian diaspora to honor India’s legacy by fostering unity and engaging in acts of service.
