Veteran editor and former Rajya Sabha MP Chandan Mitra dead

New Delhi: Chandan Mitra, editor-politician who had been ailing for some time, passed away on September 1, tweeted his son. He was 65.

“Since it is already out there; Dad passed away late last night. He had been suffering for a while,” tweeted his son Kushan Mitra.

A former Rajya Sabha MP, Chandan Mitra resigned as the Managing Director of The Pioneer – an English daily – in June this year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the tributes and condoled the death of former BJP leader.

“Shri Chandan Mitra Ji will be remembered for his intellect and insights. He distinguished himself in the world of media as well as politics. Anguished by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” tweeted PM Modi.

Chandan Mitra had quit the BJP in 2018 and found his out with the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool, a party he had once blamed for letting loose a “reign of terror” in Bengal.

In his illustrious journalistic career, he worked with The Statesman, The Times of India, The Sunday Observer, the Hindustan Times, before joining The Pioneer.
