In Sanskrit, the name of this chakra is vishuddhi chakra which means purification. This chakra is a place of purification and balancing. Vishudhi chakra rules the throat, neck, vocal cords, voice, bronchial tubes, trachea, oesophagus, jaw , arms, nose teeth, thyroid glands and hearing.
The Thyroid and parathyroid are glands associated with this chakra.
Thyroid problems over or under active are associated with this ‘vishudhi chakra’, as are parathyroid such as cysts or tumors.
There are many yogic interventions to make vishuddhi chakra healthy and active and one of them is ‘sarvangasana’.
Technique
· Lie down on the back
· Inhaling, raise the legs (straight or bent), buttocks and upper body from the floor
· Now support the back with the hands
· Slowly extend the legs and back fully upright until the weight of the body rests on shoulders and upper arms
· The back and legs should come as close as possible to vertical line
· Breathe normally and try to remain in the pose for 30 seconds and then come back

· Detoxifies the body and calms the mind
· Regulates functions of thyroid and parathyroid glands
· Revitalizes the body
· Encourages venous blood return and good for swollen legs and varicose veins
Note of Caution
Avoid this asana if one has high blood pressure, pain in cervical neck and aged below 14 years of age
