Fifth chakra or the vishuddhi chakra is located in the throat area, and is associated with expression, communication and creativity. The elements of fifth chakra are sound, vibration and speech.
The Sanskrit name ‘Vishuddhi’ means ‘purification’. Imagine how sound can be cleansed – the vibration of music at a concert washing over you, laughing with others, or singing. If one has an overactive fifth chakra, one might find one self talking more than usual or have trouble keeping a secret. When one finds it difficult to express one self and speak up, this suggests a deficient fifth chakra. Yoga focused on the throat chakra uses your body and voice as an instrument with hymns or the mantras.
There are many yogic interventions for the throat chakra, and one of them is Ujjayi pranayama.
