Bharmanasana: Yoga to counter lethargy

The third chakra is source of energy, and any imbalance in this chakra influences energy. This imbalance of the third chakra could be because of too little energy also.

In this condition, person’s energy level will be low because the energy is suppressed. Such people does not have the drive to fulfill their needs. They put their goals on the back burner and have difficult time completing their projects. Such persons may continuously feel depressed and lethargic and prefer to sleep the whole day. These individual feels unworthy and has little confidence in themselves, and they lack assertiveness and hardly speak for themselves.

They are very quite and allow others to take advantage of them. They have tremendous fear of being alone, so prefer to stay in unhealthy relationship. They hardly trust others, which in turn may foster feelings of jealousy that could ruin any relationship.

To counter this imbalance in the third chakra, there are very effective poses and techniques in the yoga. One of them is Bharmanasana, the ‘table top pose’. Its name came from its resemblance to a flat table like surface. This pose strengthen the part of backbone, which is right behind the third chakra and generates heat a form of energy.

Technique
· Begin in dandasana
· Bend the knees and place the soles of feet and hip width apart
· Place hands next to the hips, while fingertips facing forward
· Now, inhale into the core and lift the hips upwards, attempting to make a straight line from the knees through the hips to the shoulders
· Hold for five breaths and then come to normal
· Repeat twice

· Tones abdomen and belly
· Relieves constipation
· Makes arms, wrists, shoulders strong
· Counters lethargy
· Develops confidence and assertiveness
