Indian lounges dominate WEF 2024 in Davos

Davos: About a dozen Indian lounges dominated the main Promenade street of Davos as the snowcapped resort town hosted the five-day World Economic Forum annual meeting, which ended Friday. 

The Indian Government delegation was led by Smriti Irani, the Minister of Women and Child Development along with Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Housing and Urban Affairs, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics and IT.

The delegation spoke in various sessions of the World Economic Forum in the presence of other global political and business leaders covering the topics of Education, Biofuels, Gender gaps, Renewables, Semiconductors and Manufacturing.

Adorning the event were the WeLead Lounge – set up to showcase women leadership, India Engagement Centre, pavilions by Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Karnataka, and IT majors like Wipro, Infosys, TCS and HCL Tech showcasing power of AI and technology.

India at Davos showcased its opportunity and opened doors for discussion on manufacturing, technology, gender based impact, sustainability, mobility, startups, healthcare, AI, etc.

In tandem with the India Lounges, the establishment of five State Lounges underscored India’s consolidated and prominent role at WEF, fostering collaboration and discourse on a global scale. The five states include Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.

Over 80 Indian business representatives, and a few Indian companies also made their presence felt in Davos through Lounges. CII organized a series of sessions and media panels focusing on promoting various aspects of the India growth story and India’s successful leadership of the B-20. In addition to PHDCCI, which also actively participated to showcase various strong themes representing opportunities in India.
