The Old Westbury College Foundation, Inc. will be celebrating the accomplishments of the students, faculty and staff it serves while bringing together business and industry leaders from across Long Island and New York City, at its “Own Your Future” gala.
To be held on April 25, 2024 at the Inn at New Hyde Park, in New Hyde Park, New York, the gala will support student resources and the ongoing work of the premier institution that is the State University of New York at Old Westbury. The “Own Your Future” gala is the first to be held since SUNY Old Westbury’s elevation to university status last summer and the first since the appointment of University President Timothy E. Sams in 2021.
“The Gala will provide a wonderful opportunity to showcase our university as a regional academic leader that fosters liberal arts excellence, personal growth and prepares students to embrace the social and environmental responsibilities of our 21st century global community,” said President Sams. “At the same time, we’ll celebrate and thank our dedicated honorees and all those who support our campus for their shared commitment to our students, mission, vision and future.”
Honorees for the evening are John B. King, Jr., Chancellor of the State University of New York; Nisha Kaur Sethi, M.D. and Maninder Singh Sethi, Long Island community leaders and Leslie and Mark Sillcox, Founders and Trustees of the Tortora Sillcox Family Foundation.
“The Old Westbury College Foundation is committed to serving the students, faculty and staff of the University, and securing the resources they need to excel,” said Nora Bassett, Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. “In recognizing Chancellor John King, Mr. & Dr. Sethi and Mr. & Mrs. Willcox, we are proudly honoring leaders and supporters who share our belief in service and removing barriers to success.”
Serving as emcee for the evening is Monica Morales, Reporter and Anchor at WPIX-TV Channel 11, while the evening’s guest presenters are Victoria Yunis-Schneps, President and Co-publisher of Schneps Media, and Donald Gelestino, President and Chief Executive Officer of Champion Elevator Corp. and a trustee of the Old Westbury College Foundation. The event chairs are Dr. Ravi Bhooplapur and Alexander Mun.
The “Own Your Future” Gala has garnered support from a host of businesses and individuals, including Las Vegas Sands Corporation along with Nisha Kaur Sethi, M.D. and Maninder Singh Sethi as Visionary Sponsors, and Dr. Ravi Bhooplapur and Goldman Sachs as Leadership Sponsors.
