PM Modi launches Chalo India Global Diaspora Campaign

Srinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited Srinagar, capital of Jammu and Kashmir after Article 370 was abrogated by the Parliament in 2019.

PM Modi, on this occasion, launched a campaign – Chalo India Global Diaspora Campaign, to involve overseas Indians in promoting tourism in India after inaugurating a slew of tourism-related projects. The campaign was simultaneously launched in all Indian embassies and high commissions across the globe.

The campaign is being launched based on the call of the PM Modi, wherein he requested the Indian diaspora members to encourage at least five non-Indian friends to travel to India.

Officials with the Tourism Ministry said that the campaign is a formalization of PM Modi’s call on several occasions to pitch for NRIs and overseas Indians to bring in their friends and associates to visit India and contribute to building brand India as a tourism destination.

A portal will be launched for the NRIs to register, along with the contact details, and details of the people they are nominating, who can be reached out directly by the Tourism Ministry with specific publicity material.

At the event at Bakshi Stadium, Modi also launched multiple projects related to the tourism sector worth over Rs 140 million under Swadesh Darshan and Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive schemes, including the project for Integrated Development of Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar.

PM Modi also launched the Dekho Apna Desh People’s Choice Tourist Destination Poll and to announce tourist destinations selected under Challenge-Based Destination Development (CBDD) scheme.
