Buffalo, NY: Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Director of Pharmaceutical Chemistry Ravindra Pandey, PhD, for being named a National Academy of Inventors (NAI) Fellow.
Nationally recognized as one of “the highest distinctions awarded to academic inventors,” NAI Fellowship was newly awarded to 162 individuals who collectively hold more than 4,600 U.S. patents. The organization was founded to recognize such inventors and educate the public on how its members and their ideas benefit society.
At the forefront of research in the field of photodynamic therapy (PDT) — a targeted treatment approach pioneered at Roswell Park — for more than three decades, Dr. Pandey has published more than 300 research papers and holds 41 patents. PDT is FDA-approved to treat several cancer types. The NAI Fellows Selection Committee chose Dr. Pandey for his “spirit of innovation” and inventions “that have made a tangible impact on the quality of life, economic development, and welfare of society.”

Each of these individuals are making significant contributions to both science and society through their work,” says Dr. Paul R. Sanberg, Fellow and President of NAI. “This new class, in conjunction with our existing Fellows, are creating innovations that are driving crucial advancements across a variety of disciplines and are stimulating the global and national economy in immeasurable ways as they move these technologies from lab to marketplace.”
Dr. Pandey is the founder of Roswell Park spinoff company Photolitec LLC and a past winner of several Western New York Inventor of the Year Awards. He earned his doctorate from the University of Rajasthan in Jaipur, India.
