NYC Health+Hospitals/SeaView ranks as Newsweek’s Best Nursing Home in New York

NYC Health + Hospitals/Sea View kicks off the New Year as the #1 Ranked Nursing Home in New York State by Newsweek in 2024 for the second year in a row and as a high-performing nursing home in the nation for short-term rehabilitation and long-term care according to U.S. News & World Report – 2024 Best Nursing Homes.

Newsweek identified 500 top facilities (with more than 150 beds), across 25 states, with 58 in New York state. The rankings are based on five data sources, including performance data, peer recommendations, management of the COVID-19 situation and accreditations from The Joint Commission and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. The rankings are designed to assist patients and their families in making informed decisions about where to receive their long-term and post-acute care.

“I am thrilled to celebrate this wonderful achievement with our dedicated staff. Their commitment to our mission and the love that they display to our residents is the foundation of our success. The difficulties presented over the past few years, makes this achievement a bit sweeter, as we can recognize that emotions have run high and the pandemic has amplified the need for compassion, dignity and person-centered care,” said Sea View CEO Matthew Levy. “Being recognized again as the #1 nursing home in New York State is quite the accomplishment, but it is the continued commitment and excellence displayed by the staff that I am most proud of.”

U.S. News & World Report evaluated more than 15,000 nursing homes throughout the country and rated most of them in two different areas: short-term rehabilitation and long-term care. In 2023-2024, performance ratings were determined by nurse staffing, patient outcomes and whether steps known to be effective in avoiding harm and improving health were built into nursing home routines.

“It has been a wave of great pride for this year’s recognition as the best nursing homes in the nation and Sea View holding the top spot in New York for the second year in a row,” said NYC Health + Hospitals Senior Vice President of Post-Acute Care Dr. Khoi Luong. “Without the incredible work of our compassionate team of doctors, nurses, rehabilitation professionals and so many others, our ability to provide the highest quality of short-term rehabilitation and long-term care to our most vulnerable New Yorkers would not be possible.”

“I am very fortunate to be cared for by such a kind group of people at Sea View that show me the respect and dignity I deserve. Their smiles and comforting words always make me feel like I’m right at home — and that’s very important to me and my family, so I thank them from the bottom of my heart,” said Sea View Resident Marilyn Sasso.

“I want to congratulate NYC Health + Hospitals/Sea View for being ranked the best nursing home in the state for the second consecutive year. All the healthcare workers who staff this great community in the heart of Staten Island are once again getting the recognition they deserve,” said NYC Councilman David Carr. “The fact is this distinction is no surprise to any of us because we know of the high standard of care practiced at Sea View. The rest of New York, and in my opinion, the rest of the country, would do well to learn from the example put forward by this phenomenal borough institution.”

“Staten Islanders deserve the highest level of care, and for the second year in a row, it is evident that Sea View is leading the charge. I want to congratulate and thank the incredible professionals at Sea View & NYC Health + Hospitals for the incredible work they do every day – ensuring Staten Islanders have access to quality and compassionate care. Sea View is such an integral part of our community and I could not be more proud to represent you,” said NYS Assemblyman Sam Pirozzolo.

“Congratulations to NYC Health + Hospitals/Sea View for being ranked the #1 nursing home in New York State for two consecutive years, and for being one of the best nursing homes in the nation for both long and short-term care,” said Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis. “This remarkable achievement reflects the steadfast commitment you’ve made to our seniors and providing them with the highest quality of care.”
