Senator Schumer recommends, President Biden nominates Sanket Bulsara as a district judge

New York: U.S. Senator Charles Schumer announced that he has recommended U.S. Magistrate Judge Sanket Jayshukh Bulsara to serve as a district judge on the prestigious United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Schumer forwarded the name of Sanket Bulsara for the Eastern District of New York to the Biden-Harris administration. And on February 7, 2024, President Biden has nominated Judge Bulsara for a district judgeship for the Eastern District of New York court.

“Sanket Bulsara is first-rate legal mind and a dedicated, talented public servant, who is currently serving as a Magistrate Judge in the Eastern District of New York. Judge Bulsara was General Counsel for the Securities and Exchange Commission where he worked to protect investors and the country’s financial markets. He is an expert in securities, contract, bankruptcy, and regulatory matters, but his experience also extends to representing the incarcerated, victims of domestic violence, and individuals on death row in pro bono cases,” said U.S. Senator Charles Schumer.

“Judge Bulsara has a broad range of experiences, from clerking for Hon. John G. Koeltl on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, to serving as Acting General Counsel for the Securities and Exchange Commission and developing a broad-based, trial-centered practice, to his current service as a Magistrate Judge in the Eastern District. This vast range of invaluable experiences will serve him well as a United States District Judge for the Eastern District of New York,” said Schumer.

“Sanket Bulsara is the epitome of the American Dream and a history maker: the child of hard-working immigrants from both India and Kenya, and the first South Asian American federal judge to serve on any court in the Second Circuit when he was appointed as a Magistrate Judge,” Schumer added.

Bulsara was born in the Bronx to immigrant parents before moving to New Rochelle and later Edgemont, New York. Bulsara’s parents immigrated over 50 years ago, his father worked for the City of New York as an engineer and his mother was a dedicated nurse.

Bulsara earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School cum laude in 2002 and an A.B. magna cum laude from Harvard College in 1998. He lives in Long Island City with his wife, Christine DeLorenzo.
