Indian Overseas Congress, USA supports the MSP for farmers

IOCUSA expresses its solidarity with the struggles of India’s farmers and their demand for the Minimum Price Guarantee for 23 crops. “Agriculture is the backbone of the nation that safeguards the livelihoods of millions of lives while promoting food security for India. Unfortunately, the BJP government fails to see its contribution from the social justice and equity perspective,” said George Abraham, Vice-Chairman of the IOCUSA.

IOCUSA also strongly supports the farmer’s right to protest and let their voices be heard. The recent death of Subhkaran Singh, a 21-year-old farmer, shows the high-handed tactics the police are employing to suppress the fundamental rights of freedom of expression. We express our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

We call upon the Modi administration to pass laws that guarantee minimum prices for their crops while requesting the law enforcement authorities to show restraint and respect laws that govern dissent and freedom of expression.
