Muscat: The Indian community in Oman organized a grand program in Muscat to celebrate the successful and historic voyage of INSV KAUNDINYA - The Stitched Ship of India, which sailed from Porbandar in Gujarat on December 29, 2025, and reached Muscat on January 14, 2026. The trans-oceanic voyage with a crew of 18 Indian Navy personnel.
Speaking to ANI on the sidelines of the welcome program for the crew, Tavishi Behel Pandey, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Muscat, described the ship's arrival as an emotional and inspiring moment for the community.

As per media reports, the Indian community was fascinated by the ship's distinctive traditional construction, the remarkable maritime wisdom of ancient Indian sea traders, and the centuries-old Indo–Omani maritime connect.
Through engaging interactions with the crew, visitors gained insights into the voyage, navigation techniques, and the ship’s historical significance. The diaspora also appreciated the Indian Navy’s steadfast role in defending the nation and also lauded its efforts in preserving and showcasing India’s rich maritime culture.
Underscoring the project's diplomatic and cultural importance, Pandey said the voyage held special significance for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to revive India's maritime heritage.
Inspired by Ajanta Cave depictions and built using ancient stitched-plank techniques, the vessel symbolizes enduring India–Oman civilizational ties as both nations mark 70 years of diplomatic relations.
