The visit holds significance as it will be the first by a Chinese Foreign Minister to India post June 2020 Galwan clashes.
Beijing: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit India next week to hold talks with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Wang and Doval are the special representatives of the two countries who lead talks related to the question of the boundary.
The visit comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's planned visit to the nation for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, and at a time when India and China have taken a series of steps to improve their relationship in recent months.
Last year, India and China reached an understanding for the partial resolution of the standoff in Ladakh. Earlier this year, China resumed the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra and India resumed giving visas to Chinese tourists. The two sides are also likely to resume direct flights within weeks.
India-China in talks to resume border trade
Meanwhile, India is working with China to resume trade through Lipulekh, Shipki La, and Nathu La passes, said the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in a statement.
"We have remained engaged with the Chinese side to facilitate the resumption of border trade through all the designated trade points-namely Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand, Shipki La Pass in Himachal Pradesh, and Nathu La Pass in Sikkim. If there are any updates, we will keep you informed," said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a media briefing.
The two Asian nations will also be holding a crucial meeting next week to iron out border issues. Both countries will be holding the Special Representative-level talks next week.
