Bhubaneswar: External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar said India will continue to use its diaspora as a very important pathway for globalization and its rise in the international order. Addressing a joint business session with the Odisha government on the sidelines of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD), being held in the state for the first time, Jaishankar said the Persons of India Origin (PIOs) and Non-Resident Indian (NRIs) are in many ways India’s connect to the world and often called the “living bridge”.

The theme of this year’s convention is ‘Diaspora’s contribution to a Viksit Bharat’ to celebrate the contributions of the overseas Indian community.

"The takeaway from PBD 2025 will clearly be a Bharat that is confident, modernizing, and inclusive, where tradition and technology go hand in hand."
- S Jaishankar

“If you look at the history of the world, especially the modern world, no country has grown by itself, every country has grown with global partners, and at this time for us, that partnership — a partnership that will supplement resources which will infuse technology, which will introduce best practices — that is absolutely essential if India is to attain this potential and that is where NRIs and PIOs can make a difference,” said the EAM.

Emphasizing on the 3 ‘Ts’ — trade, technology and tourism, which Jaishankar said the PM often talks about when it comes to evaluating the foreign policy — he appealed to the PIOs and NRIs to reflect on them from the perspective of Odisha.

Jaishankar also inaugurated the Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2025, a customary event part of the PBD celebrations. Stating that the country has just started its journey towards Viksit Bharat in the Amrit Kaal, Jaishankar said the endeavor (to make India a developed nation) is very much about the future generation.
