India denying visas to Khalistanis, claims Canadian report

Friday, 13 Dec, 2024

New York: As the diplomatic spat between India and Canada heats up, a Canadian news report has now claimed that New Delhi has been denying visas to pro-Khalistani citizens unless they explicitly denounce their support for separatism.

The report by Global News, based on interviews with Sikh Canadians, has come under scathing criticism from geopolitical experts over its underlying irony. As per the report, several pro-Khalistani Canadians said they were made to sign letters denouncing Khalistan separatism and affirming their respect for India as a pre-condition for visas.

There was no reaction from the Indian government yet on the report. Canadian political expert Daniel Bordman called this a "wild story”. Another geopolitical analyst pointed out on X that every country asks this sort of question before granting a visa.

India has repeatedly expressed its deep concern about extremism and the culture of violence and anti-India activities in Canada, seeking action against these activities. There has been a string of similar incidents documented in recent years, underscoring a distressing trend of religious intolerance in Canada.
