New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed a special public prosecutor for the Mumbai terror attack case for three years, a day before the arrival of Tahawwur Rana, who is being extradited from the US for his role in the 26/11 attacks.
Narender Mann, who has represented the CBI in various cases as special public prosecutor, will represent the NIA (National Investigation Agency) in the case against Rana and David Coleman Headley before Special Courts in Delhi and Appellate Courts, as per the gazette notification issued by the Home Ministry.
Rana, who is being extradited from the US nearly 16 years after his arrest for his role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, will be produced before a court virtually and then taken into judicial custody.
A Canadian national of Pakistani origin, Rana will be kept in a high-security ward in Tihar Jail. The 26/11 plotter's extradition was approved after the US Supreme Court denied Rana's last-ditch application seeking a stay. A former Pakistani army personnel, Rana is accused of providing logistical and financial support to David Coleman Headley, who surveyed targets in Mumbai before 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists went on a rampage in the city.
