New Delhi: At least 21 people were killed and more than 40 others were rescued after a massive fire broke out at a hotel in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar, this week, officials said. The blaze triggered scenes of panic as people scrambled to escape the smoke-filled building.
Authorities have confirmed that among the 21 people who died in the Malviya Nagar fire tragedy, 12 have been identified as foreign nationals. Efforts are underway to identify the remaining bodies and inform the families of those affected.
The preliminary findings in the investigation into the deadly fire indicate that the blaze was likely caused by a short circuit, according to police sources. Experts are examining the electrical systems and other potential ignition sources to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the blaze.
The Delhi Chief Minister's Office has announced a Rs 10 lakh compensation for families of those killed in the incident and Rs 5 lakh for those seriously injured.
