New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on January 29 met US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor in New Delhi, holding wide-ranging discussions on defence, trade, and critical minerals as both sides look to build momentum in the India-US partnership ahead of Jaishankar’s visit to the United States next week.

The development comes as New Delhi and Washington step up engagement across strategic, economic, and technological domains, with critical minerals emerging as a key area of cooperation after tensions over trade.

After the meeting, Jaishankar said the discussions covered "the many dimensions" of bilateral ties and expressed confidence that Gor would play a role in further strengthening relations between the two countries.

"Pleased to meet @USAmbIndia Sergio Gor today in New Delhi. Our conversation covered the many dimensions of our partnership. Welcomed him and expressed confidence that he would contribute to the strengthening of India-US relations," Jaishankar said in a post on X.

Ambassador Gor echoed the sentiment, describing the talks as "highly substantive" and focused on advancing shared interests. In his post, he said the discussion spanned defence cooperation, trade ties and collaboration on critical minerals, signalling continued engagement across strategic sectors.

The meeting in New Delhi precedes Jaishankar’s scheduled visit to Washington, DC, next week, where he is expected to participate in high-level engagements, including the inaugural Critical Minerals Ministerial.
