New Delhi: India reiterated its call for restraint as the conflict in Iran and the wider Gulf region intensified, stressing that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to de-escalation and the prevention of further civilian casualties.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said New Delhi was “deeply concerned at the recent developments in Iran and the Gulf region" and urged “all sides to exercise restraint, avoid escalation, and prioritize the safety of civilians." The ministry further emphasized that “dialogue and diplomacy should be pursued to de-escalate tensions and address underlying issues," adding that the “sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected."

Speaking at a joint press conference with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also stressed that conflicts must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy rather than military means.

“Today, the world is passing through a phase of instability and uncertainty. From Ukraine to West Asia, conflict persists in many parts of the world. India and Finland both believe in the rule of law, dialogue, and diplomacy. We are in agreement that no issue can be resolved through military conflict alone. Be it Ukraine or West Asia, we will continue to support the swift end of conflicts and every effort towards peace."

The Prime Minister also assured that the government is closely monitoring the situation and is in touch with countries in the region to safeguard Indian nationals.

PM Modi also spoke to the King of Bahrain and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and condemned the recent attacks on the two countries in violation of their sovereignty and territorial integrity, asserting that India stands in solidarity with their people in this difficult hour.
