Toms River, NJ: Braving wintry conditions across New Jersey, more than 150 members of the Bihar Jharkhand Association of North America (BJANA) and the Bihar Foundation USA – East Zone gathered to celebrate Makar Sankranti at the Shri Siddhivinayak Temple, underscoring the resilience and unity of the Indian diaspora and the strong commitment to cultural preservation and social bonding.
Newly elected BJANA President Priti Kashyap (2026–2027) interacted with attendees and expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic participation. She also acknowledged the BJANA committee and advisory board for their guidance and continued support.
Among the attendees were Raghavendra Singh and Nidhi of Jersey City, who traveled more than an hour to attend their first BJANA event. The couple said the celebration helped them understand how diaspora organizations foster cultural connection, volunteerism, and a sense of belonging.
The event also drew new members from as far as Philadelphia and other locations over 100 miles away, reflecting BJANA’s growing reach and influence within the community.
Temple Trustee Dr. Geeta Gupta thanked participants and noted that such cultural gatherings play a critical role in preserving heritage and strengthening unity among Indian Americans.
Community leaders, including Past President Shashi Sinha, Anurag Kumar, and Immediate Past President Sanjeev Singh, urged members to continue collaborating to expand BJANA’s programs and community initiatives.
Alok Kumar, Chairman of Bihar Foundation USA – ETZ, praised the strong turnout despite the weather, particularly the enthusiastic participation of children. He emphasized the importance of celebrating traditions, supporting those in need, and building enduring community ties.
