Huntington Seniors chalk up another holiday celebration as the Senior Center celebrates 52 years of service.
Huntington, NY: The Town of Huntington Senior Center celebrated its 10th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Irish Soda Bread Contest on Tuesday, March 17th. Hosted by the Adult Day Care Program at the Senior Center, located at 423 Park Avenue, the beloved annual tradition brought together participants, staff, and local officials for a festive and flavorful celebration of Irish culture.

Contestants showcased their baking talents with a variety of delicious Irish soda bread recipes. This year’s panel of judges included Huntington Supervisor Ed Smyth, Councilman Dr. Dave Bennardo, Receiver of Taxes Jillian Guthman, Councilwoman Jennifer Hebert, and a very special judge and Senior Center member, Sue O.
The event highlighted not only the baking talents of participants but also the vibrant sense of community that defines the Huntington Senior Center. The Irish Soda Bread Contest is just one of many engaging programs and activities offered regularly, making the Center a welcoming and enriching place for local residents.

“This event truly captures the spirit of our Senior Center, bringing people together to celebrate creativity and community,” said Supervisor Ed Smyth. “After 52 years of service, it is obvious that Huntington has the senior center that serves as a model to all”.
On March 18, 1974, the Town of Huntington Senior Nutrition Center opened its doors, with the goal of providing Huntington's seniors with a place to socialize, engage in activities, and enjoy a healthy meal. 52 years later, the Town of Huntington Senior Center remains just that, and has since expanded into offerings such as daily activities, holiday celebrations, and services including home repair and meal delivery, programs at the Senior Beach House, and a kitchen that prepares 250 meals per day.
