New York State's most iconic landmarks were illuminated in the vibrant saffron, white, and green colors of the Indian flag on Friday, August 15, 2025, to commemorate India's 79th Independence Day. The breathtaking tribute spanned the entire state, with landmarks including Niagara Falls, One World Trade Center, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, Grand Central Terminal's Pershing Square Viaduct, and Albany International Airport Gateway joining in this unprecedented celebration of Indo-American friendship.

Consul Pragya Singh attended the Flag Hoisting Ceremony and 79th Independence Day celebrations organized by the Indo American Culture Society in Iselin, New Jersey. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the community and was graced by the esteemed presence of Senator Owen Henry, Mayor John E. The 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated at White Plains with flag hoisting, patriotic songs, and cultural programs. The event, organized bythe Indian Cultural Association of North America in collaboration with the Mayor of White Plains, saw the participation of Congressman George Latimer, NY Assemblywoman Mary Jane Shimsky, members of the Westchester County legislature as well as a wide spectrum of the Indian diaspora. The Association of Indians in America (AIA) founded in 1967, had a float in the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) parade held on Madison Avenue in Manhattan, New York. New York Senator John Liu, Consul General of India in New York, Binaya S Pradhan, along with the Deputy Consul General Vishal Harsh and Consul for Cultural Affairs Tsewang Gyaltson, graced the Float as well as encouraged AIA members with beautiful pictures. The float was decorated with AIA national executive committee banners mentioning names of all its chapters in the USA as well as AIA’s resolve to: “Indian heritage and American commitment”. (Photos courtesy: AIA)

AAPI marks India’s I-Day with Leadership Summit, Akshardham Visit, and India Day Parade 

“American Association of Physicians of Indian origin (AAPI) had a powerful weekend of celebration, service, and community, as we honored India's 79th Independence Day in the heart of New York City,” said Dr. Amit Chakrabarty, President of AAPI. “We were fortunate to be part of and led the ‘I Love My India Float Parade’ – Celebrating Our Heritage from Raipath to Times Square. Azadi Ke Rang, AAPI Ke Sang.”

Dr. Amit Chakrabarty, President of AAPI along with several Executive Committee Members, Dr. Hetal Gor, Chair of AAPI BOT; Regional Directors, members of BOT from different parts of the country joined the over a hundred thousand fellow Indian Americans to be part of the largest India Day Parade, organized by the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA).
