Washington: As a defiant Donald Trump secured another term in the White House, world leaders from India to Italy and the UK to Ukraine started posting congratulatory messages on social media platforms, directing their envoys here to arrange for a meeting with the President-elect as early as they could.

As per reports, world leaders are scouting all options — including flying into New York or at Trump’s swanky resort in Florida — as they wish to meet him and understand his viewpoints on world issues before his inauguration as the 47th US President in January.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Trump and said he was looking forward to working closely together once again to further strengthen India-US relations across technology, defense, energy, space and several other sectors. Trump apparently told PM Modi that the whole world loves him and India is a magnificent country. Trump said he considers him and India a true friend.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni extended her warm wishes, saying Italy and the US are 'sister' nations, linked by an unshakable alliance, common values, and a historic friendship. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he had a “productive” conversation with the US President-elect. “We cannot yet know what his specific actions will be. But we hope that America will become stronger,” Zelensky said. “This is the kind of America that Europe needs. And a strong Europe is what America needs.”

While UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer underscored the "UK-US special relationship" emphasizing shared values of "freedom, democracy and enterprise,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said “your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America”.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed readiness for renewed cooperation, saying he is ready to work together as “we did for four years”. Meanwhile, Russia said that Vladimir Putin has no plans to congratulate Trump in the near future and instead will wait to see how he acts once in office.
