Washington: The White House has finally named Amy Gleason as the acting administrator of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The Trump administration had faced growing pressure to disclose the identity of the official formally in charge of DOGE, particularly after court filings clarified that billionaire Elon Musk, whom President Donald Trump previously claimed was overseeing the initiative, had no direct authority over the cost-cutting program.
Gleason has a background in healthcare technology and previously worked in the first Trump administration. Her appointment to lead DOGE, which has been pushing aggressive budget cuts across federal agencies, has drawn significant attention.
According to her LinkedIn profile, she worked as a digital services expert at the United States Digital Service (USDS) from 2018 to 2021. The agency has since been renamed the US DOGE Service under the Trump administration. She played a role in the federal response to the COVID-19 pandemic and later returned to the agency in January after Trump took office for his second term.
Despite her official role, it remains unclear how much decision-making authority Gleason holds within DOGE. The cost-cutting program has been publicly led by Musk, but the White House has insisted that the billionaire is merely a senior adviser to President Trump, not a DOGE employee.
