President Donald Trump said US forces are gaining the upper hand in the war with Iran

Washington: Praising the top-notch US military operations against Iran, US President Donald Trump has said that the country has the capability to go far longer than its projected four-to-five-week time frame for the war to end.

Trump outlined his administration’s justification for going to war against Iran alongside Israel, saying that Iran posed “grave threats” to the US, even as he again claimed that US strikes on Iran in June of last year led to the “obliteration of Iran’s nuclear program”.

“The regime already had missiles capable of hitting Europe and our bases, both local and overseas, and would soon have had missiles capable of reaching our beautiful America,” Trump said. He also said that Iran’s ballistic missile program was “growing rapidly and dramatically, and this posed a very clear, colossal threat to America and our forces stationed overseas”.

“The purpose of this fast-growing missile program was to shield their nuclear weapon development and make it extraordinarily difficult for anyone to stop them from making these – highly forbidden by us – nuclear weapons,” Trump said. “An Iranian regime armed with long-range missiles and nuclear weapons would be an intolerable threat to the Middle East, but also to the American people,” he added.

Trump also released a recorded message, saying that Iran had waged a “war against civilization”. Earlier, the President gave the US military an extraordinary rating for its performance in the war with Iran, saying the campaign had achieved rapid progress in less than a week. “We’re doing well on the war front, to put it mildly. Somebody said on a scale of 10, where would you rate it? I said about a 15,” Trump said.

The President added that the United States was now in a commanding position as Iranian leadership figures continued to be targeted during the military campaign. “We’re in a very strong position now, and their leadership is just rapidly going. Everybody that seems to want to be a leader, they end up dead,” Trump said.

Trump’s remarks came as the war entered its sixth day, with fresh explosions reported across the Middle East and US forces continuing coordinated operations alongside Israel. The Pentagon has said the ongoing campaign aims to cripple Iran’s missile capabilities and degrade its military infrastructure.
